Community Grants Available for Raising HIV/AIDS Awareness

January 24, 2007

What:

The Contra Costa Public Health AIDS Program is pleased to announce the availability of mini-grants to conduct one-time interactive education events reaching women and men who have risks for acquiring HIV. We are interested in funding events where groups explore why individuals/community continue to put themselves at risk for HIV.

The "Women Like You" DVD, showing women talking about HIV/AIDS, is available for those who are interested to use this as part of their group event.

When:

The application form is due on February 21, 2007.

Who:

Local groups and institutions, including churches, neighborhood groups/associations, non-profit organizations and individuals are encouraged to apply.

How:

Grant money can pay for reimbursement for materials to conduct events in Contra Costa County reaching local residents. Group events corresponding to HIV/AIDS Observances dates are encouraged. All events must take place before June 2007.

Sample event ideas include community events encouraging open discussion to reduce stigma and discrimination about HIV/AIDS, to provide women with the opportunity to talk about HIV prevention and how to negotiate safer sex with partners, and for making AIDS memorial quilts.

For information or to apply, visit www.cchealth.org to obtain an application form (39k PDF, 2pp.) or contact Carmen Beyer by email at cbeyer@hsd.cccounty.us or by phone at 925-313-6783. Groups selected to receive a grant are required to attend the award ceremony and orientation.
